Ashby History Comes to Life

Ashby 2010

A Film for the Future about Life Today

The Museum is working on a project to produce a film depicting some aspects of life and community in Ashby in the year 2010.  The hope is that this will be of interest and value to people in generations to come as well as being of interest to visitors and residents today.

It is envisaged that the project will have several parts:

1. The Ashby Year:  This will depict important annual events in the town such as The Statutes, The Arts Festival, The Remembrance Day Parade etc.  Social and Sporting groups as well as schools may have annual events which they would like included in this section. The Chairman of the Fairgrounds Association has responded to our request to Pat Collins Fairs and will be helping us with the filming of the the Statutes in September.

2. Social and Educational Groups and churches: We are hoping that as many groups, churches and schools as possible will want to contribute to this section.  Contributions will only be short.  The idea is to give a flavour of the sort of social, church and educational organisations operating in the town in the year 2010 and the part they play in the community. We are already working with several Ashby churches and with Woodcote Primary School, Ashby Musical Theatre, Ashby Venture Theatre, Ashby Art Club and the Ashby Pithiviers Twinning Association. We will be working with other Ashby schools in the Autumn Term. We also want to include various other "leisure, hobby and sporting groups" and we will be contacting them shortly.

3. Work, Trade and Industry  In order to represent this aspect of life in Ashby we have shown pictures of various types of work place in Ashby and have visited the various business and industrial parks around the town. This clip can be seen on this page below the Shopping clip.

We have already completed the section on "the shopping experience" for people in Ashby. This is the clip you can view at the top of this page now.

Mubu funding has enabled us to extend this project so that we can offer free training to schools and community groups in film making. We aim to encourage local people to use the Museum as a source of inspiration for their films and to open up the Museum collections and the history of Ashby to a wider audience through film and the internet.

The project is being led by Dr Wendy Freer, historian, ICT Consulatant Trainer, experienced film-maker and trustee of the museum. Website: wendyfreer.org.uk Co-director of the project is Mary Barker of Ashby Venture Theatre. Contact: film@hastyngs.plus.com
